Who Are We?

DOGS ON CALL  (DOC) is one of the programs offered by the Easter Seals of Alabama network of services. Founded in 2008, DOGS ON CALL is an Easter Seals Alabama non-profit organization that supports, trains, organizes, and certifies dogs and their handlers to perform multiple services. You can learn more about the important work of this community service organization by viewing the Dogs On Call introductory video.

Our Mission & Philosophy

More than a Therapy Dog program, DOGS ON CALL (DOC) is a volunteer-driven Community Service Organization. Our mission is to provide the compassion and assistance that only a trained therapy dog can give.  A Therapy Dog is trained to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools, hospices, disaster areas, and to people with learning difficulties.

What We Do

DOGS ON CALL provides training for potential Therapy Dogs, tests for several levels of certification, monitors, and schedules placements for DOC Teams (handler + dog) to visit schools, nursing/assisted living facilities, at-risk children’s programs, and youth detention centers, as well as many other venues in the community. DOC Teams with more advanced certifications and training also provide specialized therapy for people in hospitals, mental health and cancer treatment centers, and children’s rehabilitation centers.
